Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14905 for PC & Mobile

Hello Windows Insiders!

They rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for Windows 10 Mobile. Today they release Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14905 for PC AND Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring! This is first new Mobile build from their Development Branch after launching the Windows 10 Anniversary Update yesterday for Windows 10 phones. 

 

Here’s what’s new in Build 14905 for Mobile

They are introducing a newly refined sound set in this build, uniting the best of our past and present. They aspire to set a new bar for mobile sound set quality, and are trying to make the soundscape of technology more beautiful and harmonious. This also helps align with new sound design direction of the Windows platform as a whole, so that mobile sounds will family with desktop and tablet and be feel instantly familiar to all Windows users. They will continue to evolve – head to Settings > Personalization > Sounds to see the updated list of available sounds and let us know what you think!

 

Improvements and fixes for PC

• They have fixed an issue causing a large blank space to appear between the address bar and web content after the address bar moves back to the top when opening a new tab in Microsoft Edge.
• They have updated Narrator Scan mode for table navigation to now support CTRL + ALT + HOME to go to the beginning of the table CTRL + ALT + END to go to the end of the table.
• Microsoft Edge now supports the CTRL + O keyboard shortcut for setting focus to the address bar.
• They fixed an issue resulting in Sketchpad and Screen Sketch crashing after trying to change the ink color twice in a row when the ruler was visible.

Improvements and fixes for Mobile

• Missed call notifications are now more actionable, with inline options to call back, text or remind yourself to do something about it later.
• They fixed an issue where videos played in Windows Phone 8 apps might not pause when an incoming call was received.
• They fixed an issue where, if “Show my caller ID” is set to “My contacts”, the contact being called might still see a blocked caller ID.
• They fixed an issue where the Lock screen might fail to update to the new time after a time zone change.
• They fixed an issue resulting in music not resuming after a call was finished, if Turn-by-Turn directions were being read out from the Maps app when the phone call came in.

Known issues for PC

• Support for kernel debugging over 1394 has been removed, but will be available in an upcoming kit release. A work-around will be posted to the Debugging Tools for Windows Blog shortly.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes when you try to launch it.
• Cortana’s text to speech capabilities is not working in this build. For example, Cortana won’t be able to read text messages out loud for you, tell jokes, sing, or give verbal prompts.
• When clicking on the power button on the Start menu, it closes the Start menu without opening the flyout with restart/shutdown options appearing. As a workaround – you can right-click on the Start button (or WIN + X) and choose to shutdown via this menu instead.
• Apps such as Yahoo Mail, Trivia Crack, Google and the Skype Translator Preview app will crash in this build due to a compatibility issue from a recent platform change.
• The Settings app may crash on certain editions of Windows 10 when navigating to different settings pages due to a missing .dll file. We are working on getting this fixed soon.

Known issues for Mobile

• If you move apps between a SD card and internal storage (either direction), those apps will get stuck in a pending state. The workaround to get your apps working again is to uninstall the app through Settings > System > Storage (apps cannot be uninstalled from All apps list). Then you can re-install the app from the Store.
• Cortana’s text to speech capabilities is not working in this build. For example, Cortana won’t be able to read text messages out loud for you, tell jokes, sing, or give verbal prompts.

Improving Product Education: As part of an effort to explore new ways of educating our customers on features in Windows 10 – we are testing out new notifications within File Explorer. They’re designed to help customers by providing quick, easy information about things they can do or new features they can try to have a better experience with Windows 10. If you want to opt out of these notifications, you can do so by unchecking ‘Show sync provider notifications’ from the Options menu in the File Explorer View tab.

Known issues:

• Support for kernel debugging over 1394 has been removed, but will be available in an upcoming kit release. A work-around will be posted to the Debugging Tools for Windows Blog shortly.

I’d also like to thank everyone for all of your help around the research and ideas for the #WINsiders4Good events. How to get the Anniversary Update if you're in Insider program

If your computer or phone is enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, and you're running Windows 10 build 14393.x or later, you're already running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and you don't need to do anything else.
If you want to stay in the stable version of the operating system, you'll want to opt out of the Insider Program. Here's how:

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Update & security.
3. Click on Windows Insider Program.
4. Click the Stop Insider Preview builds button.

   Click the Stop Insider Preview builds button if you want to stop getting build as Insider.

   Click the Need to stop getting Insider builds completely? Then do as above.

Now your device will no longer be enrolled in the Insider program, and you'll be able to keep the same installation intact.
After unenrolling you won't get any more Insider updates until the new version becomes available to everyone on August 2nd. This means that you probably want to stay in the Insider program until the official release to stay fully up to date.
Here's another trick you can use. If you don't want to wait until the Windows 10 Anniversary Update arrives, you can enroll your device to the Windows Insider Program now and configure your settings to get new builds from the Fast ring.
After your device gets updated to the Anniversary Update, make sure to use the steps mentioned above to unenroll your device from the Insider program. Then your device will stay with the Anniversary Update, but it won't get new test builds.

How to get the Anniversary Update using the Media Creation Tool

Alternatively, you can use the Media Creation Tool to perform an in-place upgrade or a clean installation of the operating system with the Anniversary Update. However, Microsoft often delays the availability of new versions through different methods for the sake of stability of the servers. As such, it could take a little bit of time until you can use this method to upgrade your computer.
Once the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is available you can use the following steps to upgrade:

1. Download the Media Creation Tools from Microsoft.
2. Double-click the MediaCreationTool.exe to launch the tool. Follow the steps until you get to Windows 10 Setup.
3. Select Upgrade this PC now.

   Once your device connects successfully with the Windows Update servers, the update — listed as Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 — will begin downloading, then simply click the Restart Now button, and Windows 10 will proceed to finish the installation. We have improved the reliability of Start, Cortana, and Action Center.

You should now be able to mount iPods as USB mass-storage devices.

Improvements and fixes for Mobile

We fixed an issue resulting in rapid battery drain when Visual Voicemail syncs voicemail messages on Dual SIM devices like the Lumia 950 XL.

We also fixed an issue causing some battery drain on older devices like the Lumia 535, 640, 735, 830, 930 and Icon.

We fixed the issue causing Voice Recorder to not show up consistently as an option for Call Recording. A app update was released last Friday that fixes this issue. Make sure you have the app version 10.1607.1931.0.

We fixed several issues impacting Dual SIM capabilities. Using a device with two SIMs should work as it should.

Known issues for PC

We are aware of certain cases in which Surface Books and Surface Pro 4’s may bugcheck (bluescreen) due to a camera driver issue. An updated driver will roll-out via Windows Update soon that will fix this.

Known issues for Mobile

We are continuing to investigate W-Fi issues on certain devices.

Turning off Bluetooth can sometimes result in freeze, crash, or reset. See this forum post for more details.

Wallet users are prompted for a PIN twice when using tap to pay from a locked phone. You can enter their PIN twice and tap as usual once the phone is unlocked. A fix for this will come as a Wallet app update via the Store.

REMINDER: We have changed the backup format for Windows 10 Mobile devices to reduce the size of the backup stored in OneDrive. As a result, if you do a backup on a device running the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds and move back to the released version of Windows 10 Mobile (Build 10586) and restore from your backup – your Start screen layout won’t restore and remain the default Start layout. Your previous backup also gets overwritten. If you need to go back to Build 10586 temporarily, once you are on Build 10586 you should disable backup so it doesn’t overwrite the good backup from Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds. We will stop noting this going forward.

Interop Unlock Windows Phone

 

Now the First Interop Unlock hack for W10M is now available. It's currently limited to LUMIA/SAMSUNG phones, although we're trying to extend it to other OEM Device, of course. (It requires specific Driver/Services to "RUN" into "SYSTEM" Privileges. Hence, other OEM Device is lack of these. I.e HTC/Micromax etc. etc.)
*** UPDATE : Microsoft is trying to break our hack through blocking "NdtkSvc" on Lumia. So the hack currently doesn't work directly on Lumia 950/550 or later. Even if you updated extras+info on any lumia you will loss Service Access. So Stay Away from Extras+Info***

A brief summary, for those unfamiliar with interop-lock:
Windows Phone allows a number of high-privilege app capabilities, which can be used to make changes to the OS which are normally not possible for a third-party Applications.
The limitation on whether we can use these capabilities or not is based on what "level" of developer unlock the phone has.
ON WP7/8/8.1
Standard "ISV" (Independent Software Vendor) Dev Unlock (max 10 apps or less) is what pretty much everybody gets.
OEMs, however, get a special OEM Developer Unlock (300 apps or more) which gives them the ability to use much higher-privilege app capabilities than the standard ISV unlock permits. The name comes from ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES, the capability which was most important in WP7/WP8/8.1.
However, there are a great many interesting capabilities. Note that Interop-unlock by itself does not enable all of these. However, at least on Lumia/Samsung phones, it is now possible to enable *all* the capabilities.

The instructions are as follows:
1. Turn "ON" Developer Unlock Mode. (Go to Settings> Update & Security> For Developers)
2. Download "Root Tool.xap" from attachments and deploy It.

How to change fonts in Windows Phone

Hi everyone hope to have a nice day .
as you may know finally our friends get able to change Windows 10 Mobile system font and some users told this trick works on Windows Phone 8.1 too .They surely want to make things easier for you So DHT group (Dormant Hackers Team).  Get a simple app ready for you to change your phone font much easier by tapping on a button and select your font .
It's really easy to use this app :
1 . Deploy this app using Windows Phone 8.1 SDK (maybe you can install it using WP8.0 sdk too) .
2 . Run this app on your phone . (it is only works with Nokia / Microsoft phones at this time because of using Nokia RPC specific classes)
3 .Tap on select font button and choose any .ttf font you want . (hey be careful you have to first change font properties , if you don't know how I will tell you how to do that in the posts below )
4 . if you see (NGame) or (NGame2) message box it means you are done .
(if you see NGame message it means now you have a font in C:\Windows\Fonts with ngame.ttf name and we set this font in registry .
if you get NGame2 message it means now you have a font in C:\Windows\Fonts with ngame2.ttf name and we set this font in registry .

CORTANA

Cortana is an app with which you can use your voice to make a call, send a text message, search the web, or open an app.

Cortana can help you:

• Schedule a meeting
• Set a reminder for an important task
• Send automatic replies for callers when you don’t want to be disturbed
• Check your location
• Get up-to-date traffic or weather info, and much more

You need a Microsoft account to use Cortana.

To use Cortana, press and hold the search key, and follow the instructions shown on your phone.

Cortana is not available in all languages. For info on the supported languages, go to www.windowsphone.com.

How To Activate Cortana In any Windows Phone :

 There is two Modes in Cortana one is Alpha Mode and other is Beta Mode

• Cortana Alpha Mode :  Go to > Setting > Time and Languages > Select Region - India > Speech - English UK > get back to Update & security > check phone update > download speech update over here > restart your phone > Successfully done. 

•  Cortana Beta Mode : Go to > Setting > Time & Language > Region - English US  >   Speech - English Us >  Get back to update and security > Check phone updates > Download speech pack. Than restart your device.

   

  Now you are thinking what is the difference between Cortana Alpha and Cortana Beta ? These are some differences in both Alpha and Beta  :

  
  

  ·        Alpha can't let you make decisions by flipping/tossing virtual coins.

  ·        Alpha can't provide you nearby hotels/cuisine.

  ·        Alpha does not have more number of interests as compared to Beta.
  ·        Alpha offers all basic Cortana features like Quiet Hours, Reminders, and Interests.
  ·        Alpha offers news/temperature details based on your locale. Its in Alpha so we can expect some features not to be there but it almost performs like Beta.
  ·         Beta Cortana not providing details related to nearby hotels is foursquare.
  ·        Cortana beta provides this because it uses foursquare in its beta version.
  ·        Cortana can be sung a song for you.
  ·        Cortana beta won’t provide your local news.
  ·        Cortana beta will provide your local temp in Fahrenheit by default.
  ·        Cortana Beta can be easily recognize songs playing around you.
  
  
  That was some difference between Alpha Mode & Beta Mode.
  
  
  You can turn Cortana off at any time. Go to Cortana's Notebook > Settings, turn Cortana off and then restart your phone.
